Cloudless nights over Grace Lake in Huntsville typically reveal a window to the heavens, reflecting off the waters at rest. Viewers of the night sky are filled with wonder and humility as time seems to stand still. Last Friday night, however, was different.
On Independence Day at Forest Glen, launched explosions of every hue across the star-spangled sky, accompanied by healthy doses of black powder and adrenaline. On the Fourth of July, we celebrated the freedom we’ve been given through the sacrifice of many—the freedom to use our voices and take part in democracy, the freedom to gather with fellow believers and worship openly here at camp, and the eternal freedom we have in Jesus Christ our Lord.
We came together to celebrate all that the Lord has done this summer. How He has touched our lives and those of our guests and campers. Families and friends met at the Lakeside pool to share a delicious feast, sweet conversations, a cannonball contest, and to witness a beloved brother in Christ commit himself to the Lord through water baptism. It was a powerful moment of spiritual growth, one of many we’ve seen at our Christian church camp this season.
We ended the night with a bang... bang after bang, with hearts full of love and gratitude.

Camp Mystic
Though we have much to celebrate, our hearts are broken for everyone affected by the flooding in Central Texas. We grieve with those in grief and pray for the safety of those still missing and the rescuers at the scene. We share a specific heartache for our sisters and brothers at Camp Mystic, the Christian camp for girls that experienced unimaginable loss when the Guadalupe River flooded. As partners in ministry, we can only imagine the pain they’re walking through.
We hold tight to the truth of Psalm 34:18, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” In John 14, Jesus calls the Holy Spirit the Comforter. We are thankful for the comfort He provides and plead for His miraculous peace to surround all those in need.
