Safety
At Forest Glen, the safety, well-being, and spiritual care of every camper entrusted to us remain our highest priority. In accordance with Texas state laws, we continue to review and strengthen our safety policies, training, and procedures to ensure a secure and supportive camp environment.
Our staff and volunteers receive ongoing training, background screening, and clear guidance to uphold these standards with diligence and integrity. We work closely with local authorities and follow all applicable state requirements so that our campers can grow, worship, and build community in an environment marked by care and responsibility.
We are grateful for your trust and partnership. Please know that we approach these responsibilities prayerfully, seeking wisdom and guidance as we steward the lives and hearts God has placed in our care.
Flood safety
Forest Glen is not located within a designated FEMA flood plain. While we have a private, dammed lake that is not connected to any major watercourse, we continuously monitor weather conditions and maintain emergency response protocols to address severe weather events.
Emergency Preparedness
We work closely with Walker County EMS, and other agencies to train, practice, and prepare our staff to respond to a myriad of emergencies including: evacuations, wildfires, tornadoes, missing children, medical emergencies, violent perpetrators and adverse weather conditions. Staff participate in regular emergency drills and scenario-based training. We maintain clearly defined communication protocols and an incident response chain of command to ensure swift, coordinated action when needed. Additionally, we’ve taken action to install emergency generators in our dining halls, large meeting rooms, and other critical areas to ensure continuity of basic services should a power outage occur.
challenge course and Zipline
Our courses are inspected annually by Abee Inc., and monthly by an ACCT Accredited Level 2 in-house challenge course manager. All staff receive on-course training and must pass a written and skills test. *An ACCT Accredited Level 1 Practitioner, and/or qualified personnel are always on the course while in use. Participating campers wear harnesses and helmets.
Aquatics
Lifeguards are on duty whenever campers are in the pool or lake (1 lifeguard for every 25 campers with a 2-lifeguard minimum). All water safety staff have their First Aid, CPR and Lifeguard certifications through American Red Cross. Every camper completes a swim test upon arrival. Campers who do not pass are restricted to designated shallow areas or are required to wear a properly fitted USCG approved life jacket.
Medical Care
All groups staying 3+ nights or more are required to provide a medical professional holding one of the following certifications (RN, LVN, MD, PA, EMT or Paramedic). Forest Glen does not provide on-site medical personnel for third-party groups unless the program is Forest Glen-sponsored.
Food Allergies & Dietary Needs
Forest Glen makes reasonable efforts to accommodate documented food allergies and dietary restrictions when advance notice is provided. Please be advised that our facility is a nut-friendly campus and is not nut-free. Tree nut products are never served in meals prepared by our kitchen; but they may be present in packaged snacks sold at the camp store and in products brought on-site. Although we implement reasonable food safety practices to reduce the risk of cross-contact, we cannot guarantee that any food item or area of camp is completely free from allergens, including peanuts or tree nuts. We encourage parents and guardians to communicate directly with our team prior to arrival so we can work together to support each camper’s needs safely and responsibly. Campers with severe or life-threatening allergies may be required to supplement their own meals and/or emergency medication (e.g., epinephrine auto-injectors), along with a written action plan from a licensed healthcare provider.
Activity Safety & Equipment
Staff members are trained and evaluated on each activity they facilitate. Appropriate protective equipment is required and enforced where applicable. Equipment and mechanical elements (including climbing structures, inflatables, and other regulated attractions) receive required annual inspection and certification in accordance with Texas state regulations.
